Andi's Baptism

Tomorrow will be Andi's baptism. I am very excited, right now I am preparing all the stuff she will be needing tomorrow. Clothes, candles, white cloth, etc. I will post some picture after a week, as we will be in a family vacation the day after the baptism. So I will not be able to update and blog hop on those days.

I would like to greet everyone a HAPPY HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!

Andi @ 3 months

This is Andi at three months. Her Dad took her pictures this morning while changing her clothes. Of course some pictures are censored, hehehe...I cannot post it, Andi might see it when she gets older.
Because of the weather, she has an on and off rush in her face. A little petroleum or Cetaphil will do the trick. She loves it when someone talks to her all the time. She talks back as if she knows what you are talking about. She can grab the toys in her swing and spends a lot of time playing too. She is trying to roll on her side but half of her body is still not moving, only her head is turning....soon...soon she will be rolling on her tummy.

For now, she loves it when people talk to her.

Andi's First Snow Fall

This was our first snow fall this year. Gabz was so excited that she tried to catch the falling snow flakes in the backyard. The temperature has dropped drastically and we were expecting more snow the following day, unfortunately the weather has changed. The next day we had sunshine instead ! Ins't that ironic? Weather right now is very unpredictable :-)

She doesn't even have a shoes on! Walking on the ground barefoot? Kids tolerance in cold is really amazing.

Look at Andi all bundled up while her big sister was having fun outside.

Andi's first Christmas Party

Last night together with our Filipino friends we had our Christmas Party! It was so much fun:-), so much food and drinks. We had played white elephant, sort of exchange gift but with an exciting twist. It was Andi and the rest of the baby's first Christmas party. The baby's had pictures together. Andi was all smile and was sitting steadily in the couch. I was telling them, Andi had a photo shoot because they were taking her pictures for five minutes. She did not complain at all, as if she was enjoying it.

I will post pictures next time.

What is your baby's sleeping habit?

Andi is two months old now and starting to find her sleeping pattern. There are times when she slept through the night, there are times five to six hours continuously, but sometimes she still woke up every three hours.

Each baby has different sleeping habit. Some are light sleeper others doesn't care the noise around them. Some baby do take a nap the moment you put them down to their crib while others needs to be cradled and be put to sleep. Sometimes Andi loved to be cradled and be put to sleep especially if it is quite chilly. Other times you can just put her in her crib give her pacifier and she just closes her eyes. But no matter, I always love to cradle Andi and put her to sleep, because I love holding her and hugging her. Sometimes, I hug her in bed while both of us are taking a nap. I am a light sleeper, so I woke in every single movement she made. Love that feeling a lot !

Give a hug, cradle and indulge your baby as much as you can. Every moment and opportunity is precious!

Two months check up

Today, Andi will have her two months check up and immunization. She will have four vaccines I guess. Oh my poor baby :-) Sometimes it is quite difficult to have the kids vaccinated because you could see how painful it is! And to think that they are too small! Ugh, I myself hate needles. But what can I do, this is for her own good. I just hope that everything will go well.

The other night, I woke in a panic mode because I realized that I was not able to fed Andi throughout the night! But when I take a look at her crib, there she was sound asleep. It means that she slept through the night! Hooray :-) Hopefully she will be able to find her sleeping pattern. Making my fingers cross hehehe.

Teach your kids how to read

Gabz is only three years old, but I am already teaching her how to read and write. She can write her full name without any coaching from me. When it comes to reading, she can associate the sound of the beginning letter of the word. This became a game for us, she would tell me, "Mommy, B (saying the sound of B) Book, P - Pen, P - Pillow and so on and so forth. At first, I have no clue how to teach her how to read. Then she was beginning to memorize what was written on her book and pretended to read it by her. It was amazing because it looks like she knows how to read by herself. Then I bought some books that teach word familiarization. It was quite tough for her because she tends to forget the words and has the tendency to mix it up. I am trying to do some trial and error which method will work for her but has little progress at the moment.

Another approach that I have recently discovered is Words in Color. Words in Color is an approach develops by Caleb Gattegno to teach students how to read, write and spell. This approach has been used in classrooms, home schools and after school study for over 40 years in 40 countries. Words in color trigger the natural capacities to learn and do not hide from the difficulties and ambiguities of written English. But this approach is not intended for use with those who does not speak English or speak just a little of it. According to United State's National Reading Panel, there are essential sub-skills required to master the skill of reading. And these includes; decoding, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary and phonological awareness. These sub-skills are what Words in color was trying to address or develop in every student. Words in color offers the student to take responsibility for their own learning, use their mental faculties, be creative, construct strategies and work on the skills they already have.

How do you choose your childs Godparents?

We have been planning Andi's baptism on December. Yesterday, I received a letter from our parish about the guidelines on how to choose a godparents for our child.

Sometimes parents tend to overlooked the importance of godparents or rather the real role of these people in our child life. Some people choose based on social standing of the person, how close these people to the family, how these people influenced their lives, or how these people could help their child grow spiritually.

The last one are usually overlooked by us. Godparents are supposed to serve as model or guide to our child to grow in faith. How to live a Catholic life, learn and practice catholic traditions. These people has very important roles to play in our child's life.

So, how do you usually choose your child's godparents?

Look @ her now :-)

This is Andi @ two months. She is a very happy baby, always full of smile every time you talked to her. Getting bigger each day.

I bought a swing for her with some little toy on it. She was so fascinated by the toys and wanted to grab them, but her reflex is still not working. She could only raise her arms and touch the toys.

I tried to put her in her tummy to help make her neck stronger but she hates it. Could not stand for even two minutes. But she can stand already in her legs. She has strong legs, I think because my mother in law massage her legs every morning. They call it exercise time :-)

Preparing for Andi's Baptism

I have been trying to coordinate with our Parish here for Andi's Baptism. They have quite a few requirements that we need to fulfill. Luckily we had attended a baptism class a few years ago, so we will just be attending the last session of their class.

I have checked some restaurant around for the reception and glad that almost everything is in order. I just have one more problem. Baptism token. Your suggestions are very much welcome. Something simple yet can be use by the person receiving it. I don't want to give something that will be put away after the event. Have any idea anyone?

Some comforting tips ...

Sometimes baby's fuss and we don't know what to do. Since they do not have a means of telling us what they feel, they cry. For a new mom, this is the most difficult moment. You feel so helpless and does not know what to do. It is so heartbreaking watching your baby cry!

Most babies cry maybe because:

1. They have soiled diaper and needs changing.
2. They maybe cold or feel hot.
3. Have gas in their stomach and needs to e burped
4. Trouble sleeping
5. or she/he is sick (or something serious)

Usually this is what I do with Andi when she is fussy to comfort her:

1. Carry her around the house to distract her.
2. Carry her (facing me) and rock her to sleep while humming some song that cross my mind
3. lay her, tummy down across my knees and gently pat her back
4. Put her in her car seat and carry her around the house, so she feels like she is in the car
5. Give her pacifier

These are simple things we could do. But of course each baby's are different. Try to observe what actions could put your baby at ease and do this when she gets fussy. Mothers has good instinct when it comes to their babies. Trust your instinct!

Getting ready for Winter!

Andi woke up at 3:00am this morning to drink milk and a few minutes of playing time. This is her new sleeping habit this past two weeks. When we were playing, I could hear the gust of wind outside. It makes me realized that winter is almost here. I need to shop for winter clothes for the kids and my parents in law. This is Andi's first winter and we are planning to spend a vacation in Las Vegas for a few days after Christmas. Weather in Las Vegas is quite nasty. I got sick the last time we were there. This time I want to make sure that the kids will have proper clothing when we go on vacation.

This nice little Bunting will be perfect for Andi. This will keep her warm no matter how cold the weather in Las Vegas. Baby's wants to keep warm most of the time. But, I still have to find a matching booties for this cute little outfit! We really need to bundle up the babies and kids every time we go out to keep them warm so they will not catch a colds or flu.

Every time Gabz goes to school she wears this Columbia winter jacket. It is waterproof with fleece liner inside that keep her warm all the time. This winter jacket is great because it can withstand either snow or rain. It has adjustable hood too which is important for kids. I will make sure that we bring this to Las Vegas.

I hope every one will have a great time!

She has the greatest smile of all.....

At six weeks, we saw Andi's real smile :-) She even respond when you talk to her!

One day we were just surprised when she was cooing when you talk to her. I used to talked to her all the time. And she just respond with her sweet smile as if she understood what I am talking about. My heart just leaped with happiness :-)

From then on.....every time she woke up at 3am, we talked and play for a few minutes before she goes back to sleep. She is just a happy baby, just fussy when she is hungry and needs diaper change, otherwise she sleeps and play :-)

She can recognized every body's voice too :-) When I call her name, she turned her head and give her smile. Even her Daddy and Lola's voice!

Sweet Andi :-)

Andi's first Halloween!

This is Andi's first Halloween. Her Dad decided to bought her Little Devil costume. Since the headband does not fit her little head, we put the bow instead. She looks so cute and I think she likes it too!

Little Devil with Bat Girl! Gabz was so excited cuddling her baby sister. She wanted to bring Andi to do trick or treat but the weather is very chilly, so I decided to let Andi stayed inside the house. I guess she could wait until next year to do trick or treat outside! Can't wait to see my girls doing trick or treat together :-)

She is a good eater!

Andi had her first month check up last Friday. She gained 3 lbs in just a month! The doctor said that she is a good eater. He growth is 95 percentile which is good. She got her second shot of HepaB also. After the nurse took her weight, height and head circumference she was playing while waiting for the doctor. She was so behaved and happy.

Gabz got her flu shot and HepaA also. The first time the nurse poked her, she cried and told me, "Mommy I don't like it!" Poor girl :-) I kept telling her that it is needed so she won't get sick. After the doctors visit, she keeps telling me that she really, really don't like it. But when she was telling her Dad about it, she said that it was a good shot, but still does not like it :-)

Poor kids, I know the feeling. It is not fun to be poked by needles !

Do you watched TV @ 3AM?

Do you know that babies sleep more than 16 hours a day? Oh yes, for new born at least. But they do wake up after 3 to 4 hours just to eat. Andi has been doing it for a month now. She sleeps most of the time and wake up just to eat then after 30 minutes to an hour will go back to sleep. This is just ok during the day, but a night this will surely ruin your sleeping habit. That is why, I learned to watched TV at 3am. No time to watched TV or do something I want during the day because, you will learn to grab every minute that she is asleep to do household chores. And of course to take good care of my other daughter.

At one month she is now eating 4oz. of milk in just one gulp! (not literally ha?, she drinks it straight until the bottle is empty!) She is a good eater and a light sleeper. Good thing, I have my mother in law to help take good care of her during the day, while I get some zzz for an hour.

I'm not so sure until when this sleeping pattern will last. Hopefully it will change soon !

Big Sister

Gabz is really serious is taking her big sister role for Andi. During Andi's first night with us, she hardly slept at all. Every time the baby cried, she woke up and asked, "Mommy, what is wrong with the baby?" or "Mommy, what is happening?". I had to asked my husband to move her to her room because she could not sleep at all. She wanted to sleep with us and watched over her sister.

A hug and kisses are always necessary every time her sister is awake. She is fast every time you asked her to fetched something for her sister too. And when the little one cries, she run to her and tell the baby what is wrong and that her mommy is getting milk already, so she does not have to cry any more. She is so sweet !

Sometimes, I feel so guilty because when she needs something I always told her to wait or later because mommy is feeding Andi or mommy is holding Andi. Good thing though that she just turn around and wait for me to be available. But I don't want to be this way always, time might come when she will resist the idea of Andi being the first always.

Here she comes Part II

As promised here are the rest of the pictures. Still can't believed that I delivered her normally at 8 lbs ! The nurses keeps on telling me that she is too big for me, but with the patience and good skills of my doctor, I was able to deliver her with the help of a vacuum. Her head is quite elongated, but her pediatrician assured us that it will go back to its normal size. She has some bruises on her head, but aside from that she is healthy and strong. A good eater too !!!

Baby Andi after her first bath at the hospital. People were surprised how loud she cried :-)

Big sister was so happy to see baby Andi. She was so excited, but quite hesitant when she saw me lying in bed with a lot of tubes attached to my arms.

My Family :-)

A pose with Lola and Lolo. And of course the Paulino family who are always there. The twins were so happy to see the baby that finally comes out in Tita Mel's tummy :-)

Thank you so much guys !

People who gives you support, strenght and love makes this experienced a memorable one no matter how difficult and painful it is. The staff of Overlake Hospital is outstanding, great service, and good food :-) Even though my doctor was on vacation, I was so happy that Dr. Moore was there to help me. She really is great, I made the right choice to asked her to deliver my baby.

Here she comes :-) Part 1

After nine months and five days of waiting, she finally decided to see her Mom, Dad and big sister Gabz. On the wee hour of 23 Sept., 2009 Adrienne Danielle decided to see the world.

At 3am, I woke up with a sudden gush of water coming out. I thought I was dreaming, but started to stand up and it was still running down my legs. I woke up my husband and told him that I guess I broke my water bag. Went to the bathroom and after a while it stops. Oh, I told him; "Was it my water bag or just my urine?" Hmmm he suddenly went back to bed to sleep. Huh? why is he sleeping? I called the hospital and asked them what to do. They told me to go to admission so they could check me since I was already five days overdue to make sure what is happening. So, I woke up my husband again and told him that we need to go to the hospital. By then, I started to feel the contractions, and he started to panic!

To make the story short, when they checked me at the hospital, I was four cm dilated and my water bag indeed broke. So they start the labor process and took Andi the whole day before she saw us. I gave birth to baby Andi at 4:50PM, who is 8 lbs. 20 1/2 inches long. I did not expect her to be that big, no wonder it took me 16 hours of long hard labor. But all of that was over, and the moment I hold her in my arms, I could not stop crying. My heart was bursting with happiness and unexplanable feelings.

Here she is :

More pictures to come ! Mommy needs her sleep for now :-)

I'm still here....

Many of you might be wondering if I gave birth already by this time since I am already 5 days overdue. I'm telling you, you are not alone wondering....family and friends are calling every day asking the same question. It added to the stress and anxiety, but I know that these people are just as excited as we are. I had my NST (non stress test) this morning and, it looks like baby Andi is just hanging out inside my belly. She is just taking her time....because she knows that a lot of people are waiting for her arrival!

Oh well, just spoke to one of the doctors (since my primary doctor is on vacation) and she asked me to go to her office tomorrow to discuss Induction of labor on Thursday. I will be 41 weeks on Thursday, and still hoping that Andi will come out on her own before then.

If not, I don't have so much choice....

Please include us in your prayers.....

I don't want her to pass her due date :-(

I went to my OB last night for my weekly check up. I did not show up last week, because I thought I will deliver the baby by then. But then I was wrong, she is still here taking her own time. But the good news is, I was 3cm dilated (compared to 2cm the last time) and my OB will be on vacation next week. Oh well, hopefully I will deliver this weekend...still making my fingers cross. My due date is tomorrow, and still have no idea what my baby's plans is. My OB and I discussed last night what will happen if ever I will pass my due date. She scheduled a NST (Non Stress Test) on Tuesday and Friday next week to monitor the baby's heart rate, movements and over all activities as well as the amount of amniotic fluid. If necessary they will induce labor depending on the result of the NST. I told her that as much as possible I don't want to be induce (because I heard that it is very painful). She told me that there is a big chance that I will not reach that far, and will go into labor anytime soon. I am really hoping that she will not pass her due date.

Need prayers!

The Waiting Game

This waiting game is terrible! You does not have a single clue when the baby wanted to see the world, all you need to do is wait and endure the contractions and discomfort every single day. The sleepless nights and pain and the feeling that; is this the time ? Every contractions you feel, you always wonder if this is the day. And end up...no it's not, this is just one of those days.

For me, this is the hardest part of pregnancy, the waiting game. You know how hard it is to wait, right ? even for simple things in your life, if you are waiting for something you are always anxious for that thing to arrive, how much more if you are waiting for that little angel that you have been carrying in your belly for nine long months? You have mixed emotions every single day....and in your mind lots of questions too.

.....and yet, I am still here waiting....and waiting...

Busy Day

Yesterday was a busy day for me. Early in the morning, I had to drop my husband at his office since I would be needing the car the whole day. Then at noon, we have a scheduled hospital tour at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue. We wanted to orient ourselves what to do and what to expect when the time comes to deliver the baby. At least we would know where to park, where to go and what number to call. It is nice to know these things before hand, so you don't have to panic and get lost on that day. The hospital tour lasted for almost an hour. What I do not like about the set up is that, you will be staying in 3 to 4 rooms on your entire stay. Why can't I just stay in one room throughout the delivery? Oh well, that is the procedure said the lady who conducted the tour. No chance of changing hospital because that is the only hospital where my OB is accredited and it is quite late to do that. I think I just have to deal with it.

In the evening, I have my weekly check up and this time I met another doctor, Dr. Mitchell Newdleman. They do the standard check up, BP, weight, baby's heartbeat, and measured the size of my belly. After that he asked if he could check my cervix if I am already dilated. Indeed I am! My cervix is 50% effaced and 2cm dilated! Gosh, that is why I could already feel like I am almost there. I can give birth anytime now, funny thing; my husband was whispering to Andi if she can go out on the 8th of September, because that is Mother Mary's birthday and our civil wedding anniversary too. Well, all I can say is, let us wait and see :-)

I'm GBS free

Last Friday, I had my weekly check up again and my OB told me that my test for GBS is negative. That is good to hear, at least I am confident that the baby will not be infected by any bacteria when she comes out. GBS is Group B streptococci (GBS). It is a bacteria that could cause serious complications to your baby if she is affected.

Next week is another OB visit, and this time she will check my cervix if I am already dilated or not. Getting closer each day.......can't wait to see her. At night I was able to find a comfortable position sleeping by putting two pillows on both sides of my belly. Thanks to my doctors advise!

Hand me downs

I don't mind hand me downs baby clothes as long as I know where it came from. I received a total of four bags of hand me downs baby clothes from friends, and one more friend promised to send me winter clothes too! Wow ! isn't that great? I don't have to buy anymore. All I need to do is wash and iron it. I bought a few clothes for Andi already, but based on my experienced with Gabz I did not bought so much because I know that she will outgrow on it fast. But then a lot of friends gave me baby stuff too :-) I'm so lucky to have such good friends. The only major thing I bought for Andi is car seat and stroller. A friend gave me this white beautiful crib with matching bedding sets that she sewed herself! Thanks a lot Mel :-)

My baby is ready!

I went to my OB yesterday at Bellegroove OBGYN for my weekly check up. The doctor who met me made quite a thorough check up, not like the previous one where she is always in a hurry. How I wish I could change doctor :-( But my due date is so close, just hoping that the doctor on duty by that day is the doctor I wanted. This was the second time I met her and every time I came out from her clinic, I am satisfied by her service.

Anyway, she estimated that the baby is around 5 lbs +/- and that she is not low, just normal. My cervix is not yet dilated and according to the ultrasound, the baby's head is now positioned in my cervix and is ready. That is good news, just hoping that she would not be turning around anymore.

I learned as well that another preggy friend who's due date is three days earlier than mine gave birth yesterday! She had a baby girl and both the baby and mommy is doing good! Now, I am just waiting when my baby wanted to see me :-)

Just bought a stroller for Andi

We just received the stroller we have ordered for Andi online. My husband ordered it last Monday and we received it last night, Thursday. That was quite fast, thinking that it was bulky. We decided to order this stuff online because it is cheaper and tax free. We saw one in store when we are doing our shopping in an outlet mall, and decided that this would be it. After that we look for it online and ordered.

These are all the parts inside the box. My husband assemble it very quickly.

My husband taking a pose after he assemble everything. Everything is ready now, its up to my baby when she would like to meet her mommy!

Give comfort to your feet

When you are pregnant, you always wanted to wear things that would make you comfortable; clothes, underwear, shoes, sandals or slippers. Hormonal changes, swollen feet, back and leg aches are just a few bodily changes you will experienced. As your belly grows bigger, this could greatly affect your feet, and consequently the shoes or sandals you are wearing. When I reach my second trimester, I started to buy sandals that are flat and open to give more room to my expanding feet. When looking for a sandals or shoes, try to find something flat, with good arch support, open toes so your feet could breath, slip on as laces could be difficult to do when you have a big belly.

This comfortable sandal is good for walking at the mall, going to church or going out with friends. A matching dress or sundress during summer will be perfect for this. Cute and stylish for any clothing you wear.

These pair are perfect for your morning or afternoon walks or running errands. In addition to its comfortable style, it is Cute and sporty too. Wearing a solid flat sandals or slippers reduces pressure on the back of your feet, plus they are great for quickly slipping on and off.

What to bring at the hospital

It is the time again to get ready for the hospital. I am starting to prepare a bag that I could bring, in case I will go into labor anytime. I will put it at the back of the car, so my husband does not have to worry which bag to grab.

Here are the things I have in my bag:

For myself:
1. Robe
2. Gown which has an opening in front, for easy access when I breastfeed.
3. Slippers
4. Underwear
5. Breastfeeding bra and pads
6. Toiletries
7. Brush
8. Few make ups
9. Book (in case I will go into long labor)
10. Going home outfit

Husband:
1. Insurance Card
2. Book
3. Camera & charger
4. Toiletries
5. Extra Clothes

Baby:
1. Car seat
2. Going home outfit
3. Cap, booties & mittens
4. Blanket

So far that is all I could think about right now. Mommies, please feel free to let me know what else I need to bring based on your experienced.

Five more weeks to go!

These are our friends having a wacky shot! The kids are missing! Oh well, they have their own world, maybe having a good time at the pool in the backyard.

The three beautiful mommies!!

Of course a shot with my ever dearest husband.

Opening of gifts from our good friends ! I love the Winnie the Pooj comforter and fitted sheet from Melay Mendoza. Guess what makes is special? She made it herself! Nel made the matching pillows too. Fruits of their labor and love.

How does my baby looks like this week?

This is how baby Andi looks like this week. I am now on my 33rd week of pregnancy. Seven more weeks to go! This week she will weighs around 4 pounds and would be gaining more each week to shed off those wrinkled skin. You can keep track your baby's development at BabyCenter. Lots of information that could help you.

Right now, I could sleep a little bit better through the night. But experiencing a tingling pain in my fingers, and my wrist hurts. I could not put pressure on it especially during the evening and morning. I always asked my husband to massage my hands and feet to make me feel better. Aside from that, everything is good, my baby has been moving A LOT ! I mean really a lot! Sometimes, I was thinking if this is still normal, because i feel like she is not sleeping anymore. LOL! but that's good though, rather than her not moving.

I washed and ironed all her stuff already. Just want to do it as early as now while I still feel great. Just need to buy a few more toiletries and a Stroller, and I'm all set!

Will Stretch Marks Vanish ?

Are you seeing those white marks in your belly ? Worried that those stretch marks will never vanish?

While I was pregnant with my first child, I could not see any of those white stretch marks in my belly. I only found them after I gave birth to Gabz. At first it was dark marks, putting moisturizer in many years had lighten the marks, but it was still there. They said that stretch marks will not vanish at all, UNLESS you are gifted with good skin. Some women does not have any stretch, heredity plays a great part in who will have stretch marks and who will not. They said that if your mother had them most probably you will have them too.

Putting lotion and other moisturizers does not removed stretch marks, contrary to what other people believed.

For me those stretch marks always reminds me that once upon a time there was a tiny baby inside that belly. As you look into your daughter or son, you will be amazed how they grow so fast, a few months or years ago, they are just a tiny being inside your belly, but look at them now? So never mind those stretch marks, the experience and special moments while carrying your baby in the most important thing. Treasure those!

Waiting for the doctor.........who did not show up.

I had my bi-monthly check up yesterday. As usual I have to dragged Gabz with me and drive for myself since hubby is working. I realized yesterday how inconvenient it is to drive when my belly is so big. It keeps bumping on the steering wheel and quite difficult to get out of the car. LOL!

Oh well, yeh i went to my doctors appointment and when I arrived the lady at the reception told me that the doctor is behind schedule for 45 minutes. I said oh well, since I am already here, I will wait. She is not my primary doctor, but since this is a big clinic, they required you to see the rest of their doctors in case that doctor is the one on call during the day you will deliver the baby. So, I was there for like 45 minutes and Gabz is sooo bored already. One lady came out and told me that the doctor will be late for another 45 minutes !!! WHAT? I have been here for 45 minutes and you tell me that I have to wait for another 45 minutes? (she is not even sure if it would only be 45 minutes more) My time is not spent to wait for that doctor the whole day! She said if I want to reschedule for next week, i told her NO because that would be too close for my another schedule.

Why are we always on the mercy of this doctors schedule? I understand that they have other patients to attend too. But I just hope that they will do something in case this kind of thing happened, like calling you before hand that the doctor will be late for an hour and a half? At least you could make adjustment on your part, rather than sitting in their office doing nothing. And take note you are not allowed to be late this long...5 to 10 minutes is max that you could be late, otherwise they will not entertain you.

Sorry, just venting out....but that's life!

Swollen Ankle

I have been doing a lot yesterday. By bedtime, I could already feel all the stress in a days work. My feet is hurting like hell, i could hardly walk, my hands are tingling and everything is aching ! Argh ! Add the fact that I could not find a comfortable position to sleep.

Until this morning, I could still feel all the pain in my body. A long warm bath helps a little bit, but one ankle is still swollen. They call this edema, and is normal when your on your third trimester. Swelling is ok for me, bu the tingling pain is uncomfortable and annoying, especially to people like me who could not tolerate a small discomfort in my body. I know, I'm a whiner !!!

A few Google search found this in BabyCenter.com

Here are a few tips to avoid swelling:

• Put your feet up whenever possible. At work, it helps to keep a stool or pile of books under your desk. At home, lie on your left side when possible.

• Don't cross your legs or ankles while sitting.

• Stretch your legs frequently while sitting: Stretch your leg out, heel first, and gently flex your foot to stretch your calf muscles. Rotate your ankles and wiggle your toes.

• Take regular breaks from sitting or standing. A short walk every so often will help keep your blood circulating.

• Wear comfortable shoes that stretch to accommodate the swelling.

• Don't wear socks or stockings that have tight bands around the ankles or calves.

• Try waist-high maternity support stockings. Put them on before you get out of bed in the morning so blood doesn't have a chance to pool around your ankles.

• Drink plenty of water. Surprisingly, this helps your body retain less water.

Exercise regularly, especially by walking, swimming, or riding an exercise bike. Or try a water aerobics class — immersion in water may temporarily help reduce swelling, particularly if the water level is up near your shoulders.

Eat well, and avoid junk food.

To Breastfeed or not?

To all pregnant mommies out there, have you decided already if your are going to breastfeed or bottle feed your baby? I think this is one of the decisions we have to make before we give birth. I remember the moment I gave birth to Gabz, the nurse has to asked me if I want to breastfeed her and I said yes. Unfortunately, I was not able to do so because of some complications.

This time though (crossing my fingers), I hope I could finally do it with baby Andi. Though Gabz grows up to be healthy, mothers milk is still the best for me. I have read that breast milk:

  • contains nutrition for growth and development of the baby
  • It is easier for babies to digest
  • is always available at the right temperature
  • babies have fewer allergies and infections
  • and the best thing for moms is, it stimulates your uterus to shrink and return to normal size more quickly.
Aside from that, you will have plenty of time to bond with your baby!

Time to register at the hospital

I just had my 30th weeks check up last Friday. After that I will be having a twice a month checkup then every week. The D day is almost there...10 more weeks to go! I just can't believed it, I will be seeing my little girl very soon. Right now, I can't hardly sleep since finding the right position is quite difficult to find. My belly is so heavy and she constantly moved. Of course when the baby is doing summer sault in your tummy, who could sleep with that? But just loving it, because it means she is healthy!

During my check up, my doctor advised me that it is now the time to register at the hospital where I will deliver the baby. You could either submit the form in their office (then they will forward it to the hospital) or you can register online. Great! they are trying to make my life easy...hehehe

After that, time to get appointment at the hospital for a visit to check the facilities!

Few more weeks mommies!

I have stuffy nose

It's been like a week now that I always have stuffy nose. Do you experienced that ? You feel like you have a long running colds, a few hours it was there and suddenly it's gone. But during the night you could feel that it is there again 'till morning. They said that it's normal to have stuffy nose during pregnancy, but who wants stuffy nose ? I think it's our hormones again controlling our life huh?

I don't want to take any medicine for this as it is bearable, yet annoying. I have to talk to my doctor this Friday what can I do about this.

I just can't believed that time flies so fast. I am on my third trimester now and 10 more weeks to go. I will be meeting my little angel very soon !

I had some spotting AGAIN!

Yesterday, I went to my OB again, because I have some spotting in the morning and I felt like the baby is pushing down already. She immediately asked me to go to their clinic for a check up as I might have symptoms of pre term labor.

She did an ultrasound to check the length of my cervix and if I have some infections going on. Fortunately, everything is ok, except that my placenta is a little low. Ever since I have this pregnancy my placenta has been low, and the doctor said that it might be the cause of my spotting. I was quite concerned if I could still deliver the baby normally even if I have a low placenta. She told me that if my placenta is totally covering my cervix (thanks goodness that it is not!) they have to deliver the baby in C- section. If the placenta is below 2cm from the cervix there would be some bleeding when I deliver normally. If bleeding will be a lot, they have to deliver in c-section but if not they could deliver the baby normally. My placenta is 3 cm from my cervix right now, so I am hoping that it would move up a little or remain as it is so I could deliver the baby safely.

We are hoping that everything will be ok, just pray to GOD that He would keep me and the baby safe.

Take care of those teeth while pregnant!

A lot of people say that you are prone to tooth ache and gum problems when you are pregnant. Some even say that some of your teeth might fall off ? Do you think it's true ? or this is another wives's tale ?

I was reading this article the other day, that dental problems are very common during pregnancy and one of these is gum disease.

These are the symptoms of gum disease:
1. Red, tender, or swollen gums
2. Gums that bleed during brushing
3. Dark red or receding gums
4. Loose teeth
5. Bad breath or bad taste in your mouth

I admit that sometimes when I brush my teeth my gums are bleeding, but I am having this even before I got pregnant.

But of course it is always better to take good care of our teeth, pregnant or not. But I am one of those people who does not love to go to the dentist. I forced myself to visit the doc when it is necessary.

Here are some tips on how to take good care of those pearly white teeth:

1. Brush your teeth at least twice a day.
2. Use dental floss every time your brush.
3. Follow your dentist advice.
4. Limit your intake of food that have sugar on it.
5. Drink plenty of water.

Hope every one has a good pregnancy !

Cute Little Outfits for Andi

My thought full mother in law from Philippines sent me these cute little outfits for baby Andi. I always request from Philippines these baby essentials.

First, and the main reason why I love those baby clothes from Philippines because for new born baby's the shirt that has tie on the side is very easy to use. Once your baby is born, they are very fragile on the first few days and changing their clothes always is a challenge. Using these shirt that is overlapping is very convenient, that is why I always asked my relatives to buy one for me. You could not find one here in the US, they have one here that has snap on the side but quite difficult to find. They mostly used onesies here which is difficult for me to pull over my babys head.

I love this matching pairs that she sent. A Winnie the Pooh collection, a shirt and pajama with matching shoes and mittens. One more thing, mittens that has tie on the wrist is good too than the one that is not. The gloves that you could tie in your babys wrist does not fall often same so with the socks.
It's a good thing that she sent me shirt that has long sleeves on it. By the time I gave birth it is already fall and here in Seattle weather would be chilly already. I still have a lot of things to buy though. I am trying to do an inventory of what I have now and things that I need to purchased. As I mentioned on my previous post, it is better to shop as early as now rather than on the last month of your pregnancy.

I hope you guys have already started your shopping.

Pamper Yourself !

I felt soooo good today ! You know what ? I just came from a nail salon and got a manicure and pedicure. Isn't that great ? I think all of us mommies needs this from time to time, pampering ourselves with the things we love. I used to have my nails done almost every week when I was single, then once a month or so when I got Gabz, then suddenly I stop. But then, I wanted to feel good about myself, so I headed to the nail salon with my BFF Maricel to have our nails done.

Sometimes, when you are pregnant you feel so unglamorous and tend to forget yourself (especially if you are a stay at home Mom). But Mommies, lets try to treat ourselves sometimes, we truly ever deserved it !

How I wish I could have my hair done as well, but I guess not advisable while pregnant, maybe after. Ah, feels so good.

Why should we drink a lot of water during Pregnancy ?

Either I am pregnant or not, I am not a water person. What I mean is that I don't drink a lot of water that much. But while pregnant I have to push myself to drink water for the benefit of my baby and me. I have read some article and thought of sharing this knowledge with you.

Why do we need to drink extra water while pregnant ?

1. Water helps reduce the likelihood of headaches and dry skin.

2. Drinking enough water you can avoid urinary tract infections and constipation.

3. If you do not drink enough water you may experience early labor.

4. Water helps reduce the additional body heat generated by your increased metabolism.

5. Drink water before dinnertime to reduce the number of times you use the bathroom during night time.

Hope this simple tips helps !

Leg Cramps during Pregnancy

Leg cramps during pregnancy is one of the most annoying thing for me. During my first pregnancy, It started on my third trimester, but on this second one, it started from the beginning of my pregnancy. It hurts a lot at the same time it disturbs your sleep, because when I moved or suddenly stretch my legs in the middle of the night, it just came.

I tried to eat Banana, because they said that Potassium helps, I don't know if it helps but I am getting a few of them now.

Here are the things I do to avoid leg cramps:

1. If I get a cramp, I straighten my legs, point my toes toward my knees and my heels away from my body. It's like pulling your toes and heels in different direction, this really helps a lot !

2. Stretch your calf muscles to help with leg cramps.

3. Take a warm bath before going to bed.

4. Put your feet up every time you get a chance.

5. They say that Banana helps, but no idea how true it is. I ate Banana anyway as it gives a lot of nutrients.

Hope this simple tips helps !

Exercise during pregnancy

Everybody said that you have to exercise even while you are pregnant, because it keeps you healthy and strong and gives you more stamina during labor. But I guess it is still depends on what kind of pregnancy you are having. Some have normal and others have high risk.

I used to do Yoga even before I get pregnant and continued to do so during my first trimester. After having an on and off spotting, I stop because I was worried that I might hurt my baby. When my doctor check that my placenta was low, she asked me to take it slow. But I totally stop doing it, because I wanted to listen to what my body is saying. Of all people you should know what is best for you and the baby and you should know when to stop doing something if you think that it is not doing you and the baby any good.

But now that I am entering my third trimester and the stopping had stopped, I wanted to do some simple exercise. I do believed that doing simple exercise would make me strong and would help me with the pains I feel everyday.

Here are some simple exercise we could do based on what I have read:

1. Swimming
2. Walking
3. Low impact aerobics
4. Prenatal Yoga
5. Weight Training

Please make sure to check with your doctor what is best for you. I love walking in the afternoon and during the weekends, with my daughter and husband. This gives us time to bond at the same time.

Spotting during pregnancy

Spotting during pregnancy is somewhat scary. You do not know what is going on inside your body, and does not know when to go to the doctor and when not. You don't want to be paranoid or something...but if you are a first time Mom, this would make you worried.

During my first pregnancy, I had brown spotting during my first trimester. In this second pregnancy, I have on and off spotting from my first up to the second trimester. Not only brown spotting but red blood spotting. Good thing though that I don't have any cramping at all. My OB was monitoring it and always asked me to call if I feel any pain or cramping. We did an ultrasound and found out that my placenta was very low and that might have cause the spotting. She asked me not to stress myself and avoid heavy lifting and long walking.

Here are some reasons of spotting during pregnancy according to the doctor:

1. Implantation bleeding
2. Miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy
3. Infection (Yeast or Urinary Tract Infection)
4. Placental Problem
5. Premature Labor

So, if you have some spotting and not so sure what to do and what is happening, you better call your doctor.

Baby Gear

Since we have been talking about shopping lately, I think it won't hurt to splurge some more. I bet your eyes are drooling over to those cute baby stuff that you have seen while shopping around. Could not get hold of yourself to buy almost everything in an instant ? Yap, I know the feeling...It's one of the best time of my pregnancy.

Time to shop for baby's gear. Can you imagine that one tiny person need so much stuff ? Actually NO, it is just us moms who wants to spoil our little ones :-)

Must have baby gear:

1. Car seat with basket and stroller. It is better to buy those that comes in set, much cheaper than buying individually and of course colors matches each other.

2. Baby crib or playard. Bumpers and bedding's that goes with it.

3. Bouncer or Swing- this helps a lot when the baby is a few months old.

4. Baby Monitor

5. Baby Bath Tub

6. Diaper Bag

7. Bottles if you will be bottle feeding

As a say before, this is just the essentials. I'm sure you would find a lot of other things once you started to hop from one baby store to the other. Enjoy this moment, once the baby comes you will not have so much time to go shopping.

Have fun !

Baby's Essentials...

I think it is the right time to shop for baby's essentials, now that our belly is not too big yet. It is quite difficult to walk like a Penguin around the mall when you are eight months pregnant. So, I think as early as now it is best to start with our shopping galore !!

Here are a few rough baby's wardrobe that you would be needing when the baby comes:

1. 3 side-snap shirts or shirts that has opening at the side. If you are a first time mom, this is so much easier in changing your baby's shirt.

2. Few pairs of pajamas.

3. Matching shirt and pants for going out.

4. Bodysuits. Splurge on this one especially if you give birth on cold months.

5. Coveralls (without feet).

6. A few pairs of socks / booties. And a hat that goes with it.

7. Mittens. I used this to cover her hands so she won't scratch his/her face.

8. A sweater or a coat. If during winter you might want to buy a Bunting.

9. Blankets

10. Burp cloths or Bibs

It is up to you how many pairs of each you wanted to buy. But, don't buy so much because baby's grows so fast. Sometimes they used it for just a few times and suddenly they outgrown it already.

Enjoy shopping !!!

Enjoying the Second Trimester

A lot of people say that the second trimester of your pregnancy is the easiest part. This is the period where you get over your nausea, headaches and trouble getting some sleep.

During second trimester, usually you could easily take a nap or ZZZZ because your body felt comfortable and not too tired most of the time. It means that little by little you are getting back those energies.

The downside though, is to start sleeping at your side since it becomes uncomfortable sleeping on your back. If you are a back or belly sleeper, this would be quite a challenge. But better to start sleeping on your side as early as now so you will get used throughout your pregnancy.

I remember with Gabz, I used to lie on my right side. They said that it is better to lie on the left as it helps blood flow and nutrients to the baby. It helps you get rid of waste and fluids too. But then every time, I turn on my left, she starts kicking and wring ling inside my tummy. Mommy has no choice but to turn on my right again so both of us could go to sleep.

With this second baby, I feel so much comfortable sleeping on my left. So you see, each one of them is different, so whatever works just to make you and the baby sleep better.

Another thing is, you start to get hungry most of the time !!! So don't forget to buy some pretzels and crackers to nibble in case you get hungry in the middle of the night.

Her kicks are getting stronger !

I'm on my 21st week now. For the first time this week, my husband was able to feel Andie moves in my tummy ! It was amazing, that her kicks are getting stronger every day. Today, since I was wearing a hugging shirt, I could literally see my tummy moves. The feeling was so touching, because you know and feel that your baby is active and doing well.

My husband love to put his hands over my belly during bedtime while talking just about anything. It's his way of letting Andie know that he is there. He also makes sure that he talks to her before he goes to sleep. During bedtime, we have a ritual as a family (bonding time for us) he talks and play with Gabz in bed, red story, talk to Andie before we say our prayers.

We also taught Gabz how to bond to her sister, by asking her to talk to Andie and kiss good night. We want her to welcome and anticipate the coming of her baby sister, and as much as possible makes her feel that nothing will gonna change when the baby comes. I just hope that she would not feel neglected nor overshadowed by the attention given to the baby.

Well, we will try to cross the bridge when we get there as they say.

Helpful Websites for Pregnant Women

Being a new mom is quite challenging, difficult and overwhelming. With all the new things that is going on with your body, sometimes you do not know which one is normal and which one needs attention. You are in constant edge because you wanted your baby to be safe and healthy. Talking to other pregnant women or other moms is very essential. You could exchange ideas, tips and share experiences. That helps a lot in easing the constant worries you have. BUT, what if you don't know anybody around ? no families nor friends to share your worries most of the time ? I was in this situation when I was pregnant with my first child. Our family is back in our country and we are new in the state we used to lived. I could not call my OB every single minute, and in every qualms of my body. Pregnancy websites was my source of information, I tried to make myself knowledgeable by reading information about pregnancy, joins forums and groups.

I want to share the following websites that helped me before and even until now that I am pregnant with my second child. I visit this websites every time I have some questions in my mind.

  1. BabyCenter.com
  2. PregnancyWeekly.com
  3. PregnancyToday.com
  4. BabyNameCenter.com
  5. StorkNet.com

In these websites, you can keep track your baby's development week by week, what are the changes within your body, healthy diet while pregnant, exercise needed, listen to your baby's heart beat and sounds the baby is making inside your womb. And lots of information that will surprise you.

I hope these websites could help you as much as they have for me.

I am halfway to my pregnancy !

Today, I am on my 20th week of pregnancy. Halfway through it !!! Hooray !

They said that my baby is like the size of a banana and is swallowing whatever she is swallowing which is a good practice for her digestive system.

What is happening to me now ?
Starting to feel uncomfortable lying on my side sometimes. It takes me a few minutes tossing around finding the right position at night. Elevating my pillow helps me a lot and putting a log pillow between my legs makes me sleep soundly.

Last night I got a heartburn though. Very bad that I have to take Tums, I hate taking anything unless I could tolerate it. My heartburn on this second pregnancy started quite early. It even started on my first trimester, still come and go up to now. Wherein on my first pregnancy, I only got heartburn during my last trimester. Every pregnancy is different indeed !

By the way, I mentioned on my other blog that we will be having a baby girl !!!
