Spotting during pregnancy

Spotting during pregnancy is somewhat scary. You do not know what is going on inside your body, and does not know when to go to the doctor and when not. You don't want to be paranoid or something...but if you are a first time Mom, this would make you worried.

During my first pregnancy, I had brown spotting during my first trimester. In this second pregnancy, I have on and off spotting from my first up to the second trimester. Not only brown spotting but red blood spotting. Good thing though that I don't have any cramping at all. My OB was monitoring it and always asked me to call if I feel any pain or cramping. We did an ultrasound and found out that my placenta was very low and that might have cause the spotting. She asked me not to stress myself and avoid heavy lifting and long walking.

Here are some reasons of spotting during pregnancy according to the doctor:

1. Implantation bleeding
2. Miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy
3. Infection (Yeast or Urinary Tract Infection)
4. Placental Problem
5. Premature Labor

So, if you have some spotting and not so sure what to do and what is happening, you better call your doctor.

hi mommy melanie...got spotting/bleeding as well last April. the cause for me was Placenta Previa Totalis - a really serious pregnancy complication. I certainly hope my placenta will still migrate at the upper part of my uterus. haven't had another ultrasound since April, perhaps this June I will. by the way, can I add this link of yours to my blogs?

I never experienced spotting, just some back aches and I don't want to experience it specially now that I am carrying my princess :)
